Why do the clocks go from left to right?

This tradition dates back to Ancient Egypt. About five thousand years ago they invented the sundial. As the Sun in the sky turns from East to West, the shadow of the pin in the centre of the dial moves in a circle that's right - from left to right. When in the Middle ages, mechanical watch - first tower, the master retained the "solar principle. The first tower chimes was only one hour hand, which was moving from left to right. I think that you should add that the movement of the shadow in Sunny hours is "clockwise" only in the Northern hemisphere of the Earth. In the southern hemisphere, the shadow will move in the opposite direction.
