Table of logarithms was in 1614, the year of the Scottish mathematician John Neper (1550-1617). He published an essay entitled "Description amazing table of logarithms", written in Latin. Table Nepera each number corresponds to a specific number - the logarithm that is very easy to divide and multiply. To multiply two numbers, it is enough to sum the logarithms and find the result in the table.
Opening Nepera tremendously, oblegchilo the work of the evaluators. Grateful descendants was named in honor of Nepera University in Edinburgh, a crater on the moon and asteroid 7096 (1992). The name Nepera got a dimensionless logarithmic unit that measures the ratio of two quantities. Russian designation of this unit is NP, international - Np.
