Chapter 3. The resistance of the medium

You can seethat the planes are arranged not like birds, as usually thought, but rather like flying squirrels, sherstokrylu or flying fish. However, the named animals use their aerial webs not to go up but only in order to make large jumps - “gliding descents”, would be called the pilot. They have the power of the PRS (see Fig.) insufficient to fully balance the load of their body; it only reduces their weight and thus helps to make huge jumps with elevated points. Flying squirrels can leap a distance of 20-30 m from the top of one tree to the lower branches of another. In the East Indies and Ceylon usual much more than large species of flying squirrels - taguan - the size of our cat when he deploys his “glider”, its width reaches the half. Such large size aircraft membranes allow the animal to perform, despite the relatively large weight, flights 50 meters. And sherstokryl, which is found on Sunda and Philippine Islands, makes jumps of length up to 70 m

The flying squirrels do with the height of the jumps at a distance of 20-30 meters
