Use them quite often, usually in a dance episodes: Spanish Overture Glinka "Aragonese jota" and "Night in Madrid, in the Spanish dance from the ballet by Tchaikovsky and Glazunov. In Bizet's Opera "Carmen" in the second act the heroine dancing to the castanets, which she plays an intricate rhythm.

Real Spanish castanets are made of solid wood - ebony, boxwood, coconut palm. They resemble the shape of the shell and connected in pairs by a strap which is tightened around the big toe. Playing technique on castanets quite complex. Spanish dancers studied her since childhood.
