You may have to deal with this term, when we were talking about visiting a Museum or exhibition: "the Exhibition interesting paintings" "development of a new exhibition in the Museum...". And derivatives: exhibits, exhibits. Isn't it that you are clear about what you are talking about performance of something: paintings, if we are talking about an art exhibition, or any other exhibits.
Exposure to music is also a kind of fashion show. The presentation of the main musical themes, familiarity with the "heroes" of the composition. It is in music the term is most close to its Latin type: expositio means statement.
In Sonata form exposition is called the first of its three main sections. It sounded for the first time the main and the second party, the musical material which will then serve as the basis of development. The main party in the exposition of the sounds in the main tonality of the composition. Followed by a small connecting section, which puts the music in the tonality of the adverse party. After the adverse party should be the final part, which terminates the exposure.
Sometimes they say is not the main and the second party, and the main and secondary themes. This is inaccurate, as it often happens that one or another party includes not one but two and even more so.
Exposure is also known as a statement, that is, the first introduction of the theme (or themes, if more than one) in all voices of the Fugue. The voices enter one by one, and between their arrival may appear interludes, that is non-thematic, spanning episodes. After last theme in the exposition often sounds interlude final character, which completes this section of the Fugue.
