When we listen to now, complex symphonic and chamber works by Khachaturian, it is difficult to believe that this brilliant master of composition, Professor of the Moscow Conservatory to 19 years did not know musical notation, not heard Symphony orchestra, has never been to the Opera house.

He grew up in a family of Tiflis bookbinder, where anyone and had no idea that his need to teach music. But music always lived in the house. From an early age Aram accustomed to listening skillful singing father to the accompaniment of music, kamanca or containers. Mother sang to their native Armenian songs. The boy could not help but fall in love with music. The impressions of childhood, fine artistic flair, attachment to the folk music of the Caucasus, many years later, all this was manifested the son of a bookbinder.

"Mother often sang a sad melody Armenian songs... - says Aram. - I put the melody in the first theme of the slow movement of his Second Symphony... How would then changed my musical tastes, the original basis, which I took from childhood from live communication with the people, remained a natural ground for my creativity."

In 1921 Khachaturian came to Moscow to study. He became a student of biological faculty of Moscow University. Music had to deal only in the evenings. Still Khachaturian began to study the cello at the music school Gnesin and very soon attracted the attention of teachers. After College, he entered the Moscow Conservatory.

In 1934 to final exams at the Conservatory A. I. Khachaturian composed his First Symphony, which he dedicated to the fifteenth anniversary of Soviet Armenia. The Symphony was struck by the joyful mood, abundance of rich colors, whimsical national rhythms, unusual, interesting orchestration.

It was the first Symphony in the history of Armenian music. And after her first ballet, the first Concerto for piano and orchestra, for violin and orchestra.

Bright colors is Khachaturyan, drawing in his works, Sunny picture of life, of labor, of the victories of the Soviet people. In concerts Khachaturian's a lot of lyricism, they talk about the beauty of the sublime feelings of the mother nature. They have a calm and thoughtful. And yet the General tone of their jubilant, celebratory.

Violin and piano concerts Khachaturian requires great virtuosity of performance. The composer knows the capabilities of each instrument and orchestra, skillfully uses all their features. The great success enjoyed by the listeners Concerto-Rhapsody for violin and Sonata for piano.

During the war, Khachaturian wrote the Second Symphony. In place of the bright, Sunny colors then came the severe restraint. Motherland in danger! Jingle bells calling people to defend their Motherland. About the suffering of the people, their fortitude, and courage tells the music. Ends Symphony festive ringing of bells, announcing the victory over the enemy. Fiery Patriotic feelings expressed Khachaturian music of the ballet "Gayane".

Heroic theme attracts more and more of the composer. He wrote the music for the films "Man №217", "Secret mission", "Admiral Ushakov", "ships storming the bastions" and others.

In 1954 Khachaturian finished one of his best works - the ballet "Spartacus". "Composing music for his ballet, " writes the composer, trying to mentally comprehend the atmosphere of ancient Rome, to recreate the live pictures of the distant historical past, I have always felt a spiritual connection Spartak our era, our struggle against all kinds of tyranny, the struggle of oppressed peoples against the imperialist aggressors", the Ballet "Spartacus" was awarded the Lenin prize and with success comes on the scene of the largest theatres.

The theme of ancient history did not prevent the Khachaturian to remain himself in the music of the ballet of the same rich colors, the same expression, the same "khachaturiansabre" style, which is easy to guess in all his works.

No wonder the master composer M. F. Gnesin once said: "Whoever imitates someone, and Khachaturian himself".

A variety of feelings gives the audience the story of the heroic struggle. The music is true to the mountain of suffering in slavery people and fun free of the crowd, courage revolted slaves and poetic tenderness feelings fearless Spartacus to his beloved. Melodies Oriental character does not seem unexpected in ballet about the ancient hero.

Great place in the works of A. I. Khachaturian's music is the embodiment of the image of the great leader of the revolution of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin. Deep emotion marked his music to the documentary film "Lenin". Of inconsolable grief, experienced in January 1924, and undoubting faith in the victory of the Leninist ideas told the composer in his "Ode to the memory of Lenin".
