Waxwing

The Bohemian Waxwing is a large, very beautiful bird with playful fluffy crest on the head and black spots on the throat. Her delicate plumage has a smoky-pink color, and a dark tail ends with a wide yellow stripe. If you look closely, you can see that the wings of most individuals secondaries over the little red Deposit.

It was named so because the word "spiritech" in the old Russian language means "to shout loudly, whistling". Song of the Waxwing is a gentle bubbling trill "light-ri-ri-ri-ri"similar to the sound of the flute. Here sits this wondrous bird on a branch and chirps, and then unexpectedly as blow!.. But not from fright, no. Afraid she doesn nobody has used it to people, keep them close, allow you to enjoy yourself.

In early spring view waxwings are very powerful socket, and the bottom line exclusively feathers, not rigid branches. Here, the female will patiently sit future Chicks and male care to feed them.

Since March - April waxwings are sent to the North, where in the circumpolar taiga they raise their Chicks.

In the summer these birds feed on insects, which are often caught on the fly, larvae, various berries and young shoots of plants. In autumn and winter the main food of the waxwings - Rowan berries, and fruit trees, barberry. Winter waxwings roam in flocks in search of food and often completely remove the crop from these bushes. The voracity of waxwings is so large that not all the food is eaten by them, digested: some berries and fruits not digested in the form of excreted from the intestines of birds and, once in the soil, gives a full shoots. So waxwings contribute to the spread of plants, providing the woods like a "favor".

Waxwing

Until the mid-XX century, the appearance of these birds was considered a bad omen. But now, seeing a large bird with a long Golden tail and a red crest on the head, we know that nothing bad encounter with this bird does not promise. Just autumn has come.

Waxwings are one of our few autumn-winter pleasures.

So let's feed! But we were told that it was hit from Pneumatics(!), as soon as people are not ashamed to shoot in such a wonderful creature!?moreover, he is still a baby! Just waxwings flew into our window. My daughter watched them. Amazingly beautiful bird. Earlier've never seen. Immediately rushed to search the Internet for information about it. Found. It is a pity that so rarely they appear in Moscow, in our Koptevo district. But we have at hand a large forest. How would they invite there?
